Dominic Stricker will try to make a fast start at the Intesa Sanpaolo Next Gen ATP Finals Tuesday when he faces Jack Draper in Green Group.

The 20-year-old Swiss, who earned four Top 40 wins in 2022, is making his debut in Milan as he aims to become the fifth champion at the event. Stricker caught up with ATPTour.com ahead of his opening match, discussing deep sea fishing, his perfect day and more…

If you weren’t a tennis player, what job would you want and why?
I think I would be a teacher. I went once to a school to see what that job is like. My sister is on her way to being a teacher, but I’m also pretty interested in being a teacher. I think I would be a sports teacher.

If you could have dinner with three people, who would they be and why?
I would choose Roger [Federer]. I would choose Tiger Woods and I would choose Michael Jordan. These three guys are really something special in their sport. I think it’s also pretty different from every sport. I think all three had amazing careers.

Describe your perfect day if you are not playing tennis?
I would wake up at around eight or nine and then I would have some good breakfast. Eat some scrambled eggs and some croissants and drink a cappuccino as well. Then I would go for a round of golf. In the evening I would enjoy dinner with my family and play some games with them.

Who has had the greatest impact on your life and why?
My parents have had a very big impact on my life. My sister is always there for me. I think it’s just my family. It’s not easy for me and for my family to be away the whole time. They really support me a lot.

What is the most interesting thing you have ever done in your life?
We went deep sea fishing during the Davis Cup in Ecuador. But we had to stop because two of our team were seasick.

I would really like to do it again. We didn’t catch anything because we couldn’t fish for a long time because they were feeling sick.

If you had to choose between attending a music concert or a sporting event, what would you choose and why?
I would choose a sporting event. When I was in the United States, I went to see the NBA. If I’m on Tour, I really love to see different sports. It was pretty impressive to see the NBA. It is such a great sport.

I would say my favourite sports are football and ice hockey. I support Young Boys. They are good in the Swiss League. They won a few championships.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
I would choose to breathe underwater. It would be really cool to see how it would be to live underwater.
